Mercè Picornell
Philologer
Born in Palma in 1975, Mercè Picornell is Doctor of Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature and teaches in the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics at the University of the Balearic Islands. She is a member of the LiCETC research group (Contemporary Literature: Theoretical and Comparative Studies). In the field of Catalan literature, she has published two research monographs, Discursos testimonials en la literatura catalana recent (2002) and Continuïtats i desviacions: debats crítics en el vèrtex 1960/1970 (2013), and her latest book, Sumar les restes: ruïnes i mals endreços en la cultura catalana (2020), is currently in press. She has also published studies about experimental narrative and poetry, including those published in the joint works Textualisme i subversió (2007), Poètiques de ruptura (2008) and Transformacions. Literatura i canvi sociocultural dels anys setanta ençà (2010). She is also the editor and compiler of the monographic articles “Permeabilitats: la cultura i la societat de les Illes Balears com a espais de confluència” (Journal of Catalan Studies, 2010) and “Poetry, Experimentation and Alterity” (Catalan Review, 2012, together with Maria Muntaner and Xavier Barceló).
