Mark O'Connell

PhD in English Literature from Trinity College, Mark O'Connell is a regular contributor to the New Yorker, The Guardian, and The New York Review of Books. His first book, To Be a Machine (Granta, 2017), published in Spanish by Reservoir Books in 2019, is an essay on transhumanism with which he received the first Rooney Prize and the Wellcome Book Prize. The author has also published Notes From an Apocalypse (Granta Books, 2010), nominated for the Wainwright Prize. In his latest book, A Trace of Violence (published in Catalan by Comanegra, 2024), which won the Irish Book Awards for best nonfiction of 2023, O'Connell offers a voice to one of Ireland's most notorious killers, Donald Macarthur.
