Josep Samitier
Director of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC)
Josep Samitier is Professor of Electronics at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Barcelona, director of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), and president of the Catalan Association of Research Centres (ACER). He has devoted his career to research, teaching, and university management. His main area of research has been applications of nanotechnology in medicine. He has published more than three hundred articles in international reviews and is co-inventor of four licenced patents. He launched the Nanotechnology Platform of the Barcelona Science Park, and is coordinator of the Spanish Nanomedicine Platform. In 2003, he was awarded the City of Barcelona Prize in the category of Technological Innovation and, in 2020, the Narcís Monturiol Medal for scientific and technological merit. He is a full member of the Institute of Catalan Studies.
