Jason Y. Ng

Born in Hong Kong, a lawyer, journalist, and well-known activist of the city’s democratic movement, Jason Y. Ng studied and lived in Italy, the United States, and Canada before returning to his birthplace where he works as a finance lawyer and teaches Financial Law at the University of Hong Kong. He is author of the trilogy on postcolonial development in Hong Kong: State of Mind (2010), No City for Slow Men (2013), and Umbrellas in Bloom (2016), and has co-authored Hong Kong 20/20 (2017) and Hong Kong Noir (2019). He writes on a regular basis for South China Morning Post, Hong Kong Free Press and The Guardian, among other publications. Professor Jason Y Ng was president of PEN Hong Kong from 2016 to 2019 and is presently co-convenor of the Progressive Lawyers Group.
