Fadéla Amara
Born into a family of Algerian origin and involved in social movements since the age of fourteen, in the year 2003 she organised a march to denounce the situation of French women under the slogan Neither Whores nor Submissive. The protest lasted five weeks passing through a score of towns and managing to capture the attention of public opinion. Based on this experience, she published Ni putes ni soumises (2003), an argument in favour of republican values against discrimination.
She was recently awarded an honorary degree by the University of Manchester.
