Benjamin Jacobsen
Lecturer in Sociology at the University of York
After earning a doctorate in sociology from the University of York with the project You Have a New Memory: Mediated Memories in the Age of Algorithms, he was postdoctoral research associate on ERC-funded project "Algorithmic Societies: Ethical Life in the Machine Learning Age" at Durham University. His research broadly examines the power and politics of algorithms in transforming culture and society. Benjamin’s current work examines the emergence of so-called "synthetic data" and how they are reconfiguring the conditions of possibility for machine learning algorithms as well as ideas ethics.
