Stacey Steers. «Edge of Alchemy» by Mariana Freijomil
September 2021
Mariana Freijomil, film critic and professor, presents Edge of Alchemy by Stacey Steers. Based on Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein and appropriating the image of two great silent film actresses, the filmmaker Stacey Steers questions how women are represented in the film industry and specifically Hollywood. The film, made up of hundreds of collages and constructed using an extremely laborious, handcrafted process, draws on the tradition of surrealist cinema and also highlights other issues such as memory, identity and the current climate crisis.
