School in residence / Course 2024-25
Education and culture in the Raval neighbourhood
This is a community project with Raval secondary school students to explore new ways of learning and creating. This academic year, the programme looks at the creation of knowledge, with CCCB teams and a network of specialists.
What changes if a school takes part of its activity to an arts centre? What barriers do we break down and what relationships do we create when we think and learn from another place? How can we build a space that combines education and culture on a daily basis? The School in Residence project sets out to answer these questions by creating a permanent bond between the CCCB and a nearby secondary school in the Raval district. Throughout the school year, for two mornings a week, a group of 30 16- and 17-year-olds from the Institut Miquel Tarradell and their teachers head over to the CCCB to work, side by side, with their teams and with an extensive network of the city’s creators, thinkers and activists. Together they strive to create a new space from which to think critically about the world around them and turn the usual learning practices and spaces on their heads. School in Residence is also an opportunity to try out other ways of educating and creating, and a community project that opens up the CCCB and connects it with its surroundings. Throughout this academic year, we’ll be working on how knowledge is generated, how it is disseminated and how it can be activated in public space. Taking the exhibition Amazonias as their starting point, students at the Institut Miquel Tarradell will be exploring the challenges of the region to talk about ecology, colonialism, diversity, and human and planetary rights.
In the second term, the students will work on all the content learned with the aim of making a podcast based on a process of research, but also on references to their own personal experience. To end the year and the journey undertaken, the young people will produce an artistic project.
