What role do avant-garde artists play in the reshaping of feminism? We will be discussing this with Marta Segarra and Gabriele Schor, curators of the exhibitions that shape the “Feminisms!” project, and with the artist Ulrike Rosenbach and the O.R.G.I.A. collective.
In the 1970s, with unprecedented courage and creativity, a new generation of women artists drastically overhauled the languages and codes that had previously been used to represent women and femininity. This insurgent art not only liberated women from the male gaze but also extraordinarily expanded the possibilities for thinking about crucial issues like normality, difference, and intimacy.
This panel session will explore the continuities and ruptures between the “unexpected subjects” of this pioneering feminism and the domains and questions that contemporary feminisms are exploring today from the world of art.
Participants: Marta Segarra, Gabriele Schor, Ulrike Rosenbach, O.R.G.I.A.
