Ancestral Refuge. A Collaborative Construction

Workshop on creating a cabin with Pep Aymerich

Courses and workshops

Guided by the artist Pep Aymerich, we’ll explore the idea of refuge by building a hut together.

The hut symbolizes a space of safety and protection from the elements, a place to which to retire and create community. We’ll take as our inspiration the ancestral forms of charcoal burners’ huts in Catalonia and examples of various indigenous cultures that use the forest’s resources to ensure their regeneration.

During the workshop we’ll explore the archaic qualities of these traditional architectures that preserve ancestrality and form links in an intelligent chain that allows us to adapt to the land and its specificities over time. We’ll use natural materials such as chestnut branches, reeds and hemp rope to reconnect with ancestral wisdom, highlighting its importance in the contemporary world.
