Xavier Antich

Xavier Antich (La Seu d’Urgell, 1962) is a philosopher and lecturer in Aesthetic Ideas at the University of Girona, where he is also director of the Master’s Degree in Communications and Criticism. He has been director of the Programme of Independent Studies at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) and at the present is the patronage president of the Tàpies Foundation. He has been a lecturer in the doctoral degree courses of the Iberian and Latin American Cultures Department at Stanford University and has also taught in the Blanquerna Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Ramon Llull University (Barcelona). His recent research has been concerned with aesthetics and contemporary art, with particular attention to theories that have appeared within this framework since 1967, and artistic practices of the last forty years. Some of his studies have focused on different aspects of musical aesthetics. He is a member of the advisory board of the Cultura/s supplement of the newspaper La Vanguardia and was also named by the Parliament of Catalonia as a member of the National Council of Culture and Arts. His published works include El rostre de l’altre. Passeig filosòfic per l’obra d’Emmanuel Lévinas (The Face of the Other: A Philosophical Journey through the Work of Emmanuel Lévinas, Eliseu Climent Editor, 1993) and Antoni Tàpies. Certeses sentides (Antoni Tàpies: Felt Certainties, National Museum of Cracow and the Cervantes Institute, 2000). He also edited the volume Antoni Tàpies. En blanc i negre. Assaigs 1955-2003 (Antoni Tàpies in Black and White: Essays 1955 – 2003, Galàxia Gutenberg-Círculo de Lectores, 2008).
