Rüdiger Safranski

Rüdiger Safranski is a philosopher, essayist and author of biography of great figures in German culture. He is a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry. He has been awarded numerous prizes for his books, including the Friedrich Märker, the Ernst Robert Curtius and the Friedrich Nietzsche prizes (in 1995, 1998 and 2000 respectively). Besides his essays Das Böse oder Das Drama der Freiheit (Evil or the Drama of Freedom, published in Spanish as El mal – Tusquets, 2000), Wieviel Globalisierung verträgt der Mensch? (published in English as How Much Globalization Can We Bear? and in Spanish as ¿Cuánta globalización podemos soportar? – Tusquets, 2004), and Wieviel Wahrheit braucht der Mensch? (How Much Truth Do We Need? – published in Spanish as ¿Cuánta verdad necesita el hombre? by Lengua de Trapo, 2004), he has also written the books Ein Meister aus Deutschland. Heidegger und seine Zeit (published in English as Martin Heidegger: Between Good and Evil, and in Spanish as Un maestro de Alemania. Heidegger y su tiempo – Tusquets, 1997), Friedrich Nietzsche. Biographie seines Denkens (published in English as Nietzsche: A Philosophical Biography, and in Spanish as Nietzsche. Biografía de su pensamiento – Tusquets, 2001), Schiller oder die Erfindung des Deutschen Idealismus (Schiller and the Invention of German Idealism, published in Spanish as Schiller o la invención del idealismo alemán – Tusquets, 2006), and Schopenhauer und die wilden Jahre der Philosophie (published in English as Schopenhauer and the Wild Years of Philosophy, and in Spanish as Schopenhauer y los años salvajes de la filosofía – Tusquets, 2008). Tusquets is also about to publish Goethe y Schiller. Historia de una amistad (Goethe and Schiller: The Story of a Friendship), the original title of which is Goethe und Schiller. Geschichte einer Freundschaft.
