Pau Waelder

Art critic and independent curator. Currently working on his doctorate in the area of the Information and Knowledge Society, at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and a graduate in History of Art from the Universitat de Barcelona, he obtained the Diploma of Advanced Studies at the Department of Historical Sciences and Arts Theory from the Universitat de les Illes Balears. He has developed his career with a constant interest in contemporary art and digital art, which he has explored from different angles: curatorship, criticism, academic research and collaboration with art galleries.

His most recent projects include the exhibitions Extimitat. Art, intimitat i tecnologia (Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani, 2011), Habitat (Urbanea, 2011), Colmena (Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, 2010), FLOW (CCA, 2008) and Metapaisatges (Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, 2007), as well as the series of conferences En_lloc (Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, 2009). He has been member of the jury of the Pilar Juncosa and Sotheby’s Prizes (Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, 2009), the Ciutat de Palma Prizes 2009 (Palma City Council, 2010) and the international digital art competition FILE PRIX LUX (Sao Paulo, 2010), among others.

As an art critic and researcher in art and digital culture, he has written for various publications, prominently including the contemporary art magazines ETC Magazine (Canada), art.es (Spain) and a:minima (Spain), as well as the academic publications Leonardo (USA), M/C Journal (Australia) and Artnodes (Spain), among others. He is currently consultant professor on postgraduate courses in Digital Culture at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), editor of the Media Art section in the magazine art.es, critic for the Diari de Balears, editor and writer of the blog Arte Cultura e Innovación for Laboral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial and the UOC. He also writes texts for exhibition catalogues and monographics on contemporary art and digital culture.
