Nelson Rodriguez

Nelson Rodríguez was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, in 1938. He edited great classics of the Cuban cinema such as La primera carga al machete, by Manuel Octavio Gómez, Memorias del subdesarrollo, by Tomas Gutiérrez Alea, Lucía, by Humberto Solás and El otro Francisco, by Sergio Giral. He has also worked with other Latin American filmmakers such as Miguel Littin, Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, María Novaro, Jorge Alí Triana and Silvio Caiozzi. He is the founder of and lecturer at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV), in Cuba. He has been awarded various prizes, including the Premio Caracol of the Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC), for his editing of the film Un hombre de éxito, by Humberto Solás, and two Premios Corales at the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema to the Best Editor, for Tiempo de morir, by Jorge Alí Triana, and Papeles secundarios, by Orlando Rojas. In 2003 he received a tribute from the San Francisco International Festival, USA, for his 40-plus years of work in film editing in Cuba and Latin America, and in 2007 the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) and the Cuban Ministry of Culture awarded him the National Film Prize for his long editing career.
