She studied English, French and Spanish philology in Cologne and published her doctoral thesis 'La nueva novela latinoamericana y un modelo: Cien años de soledad de Gabriel García Márquez'. She has lived in Spain since 1968.
She began her career in the editorial section of Barral Editores. Between 1977 and 1989 she directed the Alfaguara children's and young people's collection, and later became part of the Siruela publishing team where, since 1990, she has been in charge of the collection Las tres edades. She has published several articles on publishing and has compiled numerous essays on Latin American and Spanish literature. She is a collaborator of the International Literature Festival in Berlin.
She currently lives between Berlin and Barcelona, where she is finishing the book Paseos literarios por Barcelona and an anthology on Indian contemporary literature.
