Kevin Fitzgerald started working as a disk jockey at the age of 14 years. He is the co-founder, together with Carlos Ninos, of the popular radio programme «All @ One Point» on KPFK 90.7FM in Los Angeles; founder of The Center for Hip Hop Education; co-founder of the Festival of Hip Hop Cinema and creator of various short films and music videos.
His first work, Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme (2003), narrates the story of a group of underground hip hop musicians and disk jockeys from the early 1980s to the present day. A documentary that explores the world of rap improvisation, it won the prize for the best documentary at several festivals including the Adelaide International Film Festival, the Woodstock Film Festival, the Urban World Film Festival and the Pan African Film Festival.
