Dr. Jordi Portell i de Mora, engineer and Doctor of Physics, and researcher at the ICCUB/IEEC
Jordi Portell is a Doctor of Applied Physics and electronics engineer (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya). He has worked on data processing and compression systems for space missions, on board and on the ground, principally for the Gaia mission of the European Space Agency. He specializes in new data compression algorithms, one of which has been patented and is now being commercialized by a spin-off that he created with other researchers. He is currently coordinator of Gaia’s daily data processing system, which processes 50 million measurements every day.
