Joaquín Garrigós Bueno

(Orihuela, Alicante, 1942)

A former director of the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest and one of the leading translators from Romanian into Spanish, his major contribution in making Romanian literature known abroad was recognised in 2004 with the Order of Cultural Merit of the Romanian Presidency. Among the writers he has translated are the country’s most outstanding authors and thinkers, for example Emil Cioran, Norman Manea, Camil Petrescu and, in particular Mircea Eliade. His work in making known the work of the latter was recognised with the award of the “Mircea Eliade” Commemorative Medal of the Romanian Presidency.
