Joan Fontcuberta

An artist, essayist and art promoter specialising in photography.

(Barcelona, 1955). He is a lecturer of Audiovisual Communication at the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona and visiting professor at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has worked in several projects at the CCCB and with specialist publications in the field of the image. As a curator, he has worked for the National Library of Madrid, the International Center of Photography (IPC, New York) and the Santa Mònica Arts Centre of Barcelona. His work has been exhibited in some thirty museums and art galleries in Europe, America and Japan, including the Modern Art Museum (MoMA, New York), IVAM (Valencia Institute of Modern Art), the Parco Gallery (Tokyo) and the National Art Museum of Catalonia (Barcelona). Among his more recent projects are Deconstruir Ossama (Deconstructing Osama), Deletrix, Googlegrames and Miracles & Co. His work is included in several public and private collections around the world, for example the Centre Pompidou (Paris) and MoMA (New York), and he has been awarded the David Octavius Hill Prize from the Deutsche Fotografische Akademie in 1988, the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the Ministry of Culture of France in 1994, and the National Photography Award in 1998.
