Javier Reverte

(Madrid, 1944)

He is a journalist and writer, and has worked as a press correspondent in London and Paris. As a special envoy, he has covered numerous of the world's countries over the last 30 years, writing about political events and wars. He is now a contributor to Spain's major newspapers and magazines. He has also written screenplays for television.

His literary work includes two books of poetry: Metrópoli and El volcán herido; several novels, including La trilogía de Centroamérica, comprising Los dioses debajo de la lluvia, El aroma del copal and El hombre de la guerra (Plaza & Janés, Punto de Lectura, 2000) which are three independent novels united by the geography (Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala) and the times (the war years of the eighties) in which the action is set; three short novels: Campos de fresa para siempre, Muerte a destiempo and La dama del abismo, and several travel books: Corazón de Ulises (El País-Aguilar, Círculo de Lectores, 1999), Bienvenidos al Infierno (a journey to Sarajevo), El sueño de África (Anaya & Mario Muchnik, Alianza bolsillo, 1998) and Vagabundo en África (El País-Aguilar, Punto de Lectura, 2000). The critical and commercial success of the last two have made him one of today's most read writers.
