Giorgio Agamben is a philosopher and has lectured in Aesthetics in the Faculty of Art and Design of the IUAV University in Venice since 2003. He has also taught at the universities of Verona (1993-2003) and Marcerata (1988-1992), and been visiting lecturer at various European and American universities. Since 1990, his research has centred on political philosophy, specifically on the concepts of power, sovereignty and state of exception. His works translated into English include State of Exception (University of Chicago Press, 2005), Remnants of Auschwitz: the Witness and the Archive (Zone Books 2002), Homo sacer: Sovereign Power and Bare Life (Stanford University Press, 1998) and The Coming Community (University of Minnesota Press, 1993).
