George Packer is a journalist and writer. Since 2003 he has been working at The New Yorker, for which he has written about the war in Iraq, the conflicts in Sierra Leone, the Ivory Coast and questions of counterinsurgency around the world. His book Assassin’s Gate: America in Iraq has been awarded several prizes and was named one of the best books of 2005 by The New York Times Book Review. He has also written the novels The Half Man (1991) and Central Square (1998) as well as the nonfictional works Blood of the Liberals (2001) and The Village of Waiting (2001). His most recent book The Unwinding: An Inner History of the New America (2013), which is published in Spanish as El desmoronamiento: Treinta años de declive americano (by Editorial Debate, 2015), was winner of the National Book Award and recognised in different publications as the best book published in 2013. George Packer is also editor and compiler of Orwell’s essays which have been published as Facing Unpleasant Facts (2007) and All Art is Propaganda (2007).
