Cristina Lafont has a doctoral degree from the University of Frankfurt (1992) where she specialised in German Philosophy and, in particular, hermeneutics and critical theory. A former student and interpreter of Jürgen Habermas, she has published widely on different philosophical issues. Her recent research work is concerned with defending an ideal model of deliberative democracy that could be applied beyond national borders. She has published La Razón como Lenguaje (Reason as Language – Antonio Machado Libros, 1993); Lenguaje y apertura del mundo. El giro lingüístico de la hermenéutica de Heidegger (Language and World Disclosure: The Linguistic Turn in Heidegger’s Hermeneutics, Alianza Editorial, 1997); The Linguistic Turn in Hermeneutic Philosophy (MIT Press, 1999); Heidegger, Language, and World Disclosure (Cambridge University Press, 2000). She is also co-author of Habermas Handbuch (Habermas Handbook, Metzler Verlag, 2010).
