Alessandro Scarnato

Alessandro Scarnato graduated in Architecture at the University of Florence and obtained a PhD from the Technical University of Barcelona (UPC) with a thesis on the transformation of the Ciutat Vella (Old City) of Barcelona from 1979 to 2011. In both his professional and academic research work, he has studied architectural, urban and socioeconomic aspects of interventions in the Old City. He won the competition for the renovation of Italy’s biggest historic square, in Prato, and was also coordinator of the refurbishment of the former Macson factory, which is now the IED (European Institute of Design) headquarters in Barcelona. He has taught classes and given courses in Italy, Greece, Portugal, Lebanon and the United States.
