Alessandro Baricco
(Torino, 1958)Alessandro Baricco is the author of the novels Land of Glass (winner of the Selezione Campiello Award and the Prix Médicis Étranger, 1998), Ocean Sea (Viareggio Award, 2003), Silk(2004), City (2000), Without Blood (2003) and Questa storia (2009), and also the stage monologue Novecento (2003), Omero, Iliade (2005), a rewriting of Homer’s Iliad, a collection of essays entitled Next (Piccolo libro sulla globalizzazione e il mondo che verrà (2002), and also Los bárbaros (2008).
As well as being a writer, Baricco has directed the literary talk show Pickwick for Rai Tre, and in 1994 he founded the highly successful creative writing school Scuola Holden (after Salinger’s Holden Caulfield). Since his novel Silk, which became an uninterrupted longseller in Italy and throughout the world, Baricco has established himself as one of the great Italian writers of the new generation.
