In 1973, he left the country of his birth and moved to Australia to take a Master's degree in English literature at the University of Monash. He now lives in Ballarat, Victoria, where he teaches Creative Writing, History and English.
He is the author of the novels Seasonal Adjustments, Solitude of Illusions and The Storytellers, for which he has won several prizes. He is now working on his fourth novel, Journey of Shadows, about the struggle of an Australian Vietnam War veteran who has to cope with post-traumatic stress. Harper Collins plans to publish it in October 2003.
