Teatre CCCB

The CCCB Theatre, the product of remodelling the Old Theatre of the Casa de Caritat almshouse, completes the extension of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), 17 years after the opening of the main building around the Pati de les Dones courtyard.

With the Theatre, the CCCB gains 3,164 m2 which will enable it to organize its programme in better conditions. This is the main rationale of the CCCB Theatre.

The new space includes the Sala Teatre, a multipurpose hall with capacity for 600 spectators, and the Sala Raval, which holds 170 persons.

Gaining an amenity with the capacity and the technical applications of the CCCB Theatre was a pending issue. The extension responds to an objective need that became apparent with the consolidation of the dynamic generated by the creation of the Centre in the cultural life of Barcelona and our country, at the heart of the Raval neighbourhood.

To welcome the new space, 16 March sees the official inauguration of the CCCB Theatre, at 7.30 p.m., with an itinerary that starts in the foyer of the CCCB, continues along the underground corridor that leads to the remodelled building and ends in the multipurpose hall of the CCCB Theatre.

Everyone attending will be presented with a special edition of a publication from the Breus collection that includes Antonio Tabucchi’s lecture “The Future of Chance”.

To mark the opening of the CCCB Theatre, on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2011, admission to the CCCB is free of charge

All weekend, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., anyone who comes to the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona will be able to visit the new CCCB Theatre free of charge, as well as the exhibitions currently running:
