16th Barcelona International Advanced Music and Multimedia Art Festival

Sonar, the International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art, is now in year 16 with a programme that brings together established artists, like Orbital and Grace Jones, with emerging talents from the underground scene, such as Crystal Castles, Joker and Micachu. Plus, the construction of sound creation instruments takes to the floor in the festival's exhibition area.

Having gained a reputation as one of the most prestigious events of its kind in Europe, in its sixteenth year Sonar continues its commitment to advanced music projects and cutting-edge art. Once again, Sonar activities will take place in venues throughout the city: Sonar Day in the Raval (at the CCCB, MACBA and Centre d’Art Santa Mónica), and Sonar Night at the Fira de Barcelona.

Apart from music performances (almost 140 concerts including live acts and DJ sessions), Sonar 2009 will offer a broad range of non-stop, simultaneous presentations, exhibitions, installations and audiovisual screenings of all kinds, software and medialab sessions and a trade fair for professionals, in order to bring audiences into contact with the very latest trends in electronic music, multimedia art, video and cinema. This is how Sonar continues to secure its place as an unmissable event each June, for curious audiences, new-generation artists, professionals and the most influential music and electronic arts companies.
