Meeting. The urban development, one of the Keys of the transformation of Medellín

Live streaming : http://catedramedellinbarcelona.org/

In recent years, Medellín has gone from being a symbol of drug-trafficking and violence to becoming a city of reference in discussions of social and urban transformation. Architecture and urban planning have played a notable role in bringing about these great changes. What lies behind what is known as the “Medellín model”? What can Barcelona and Medellín learn from each other’s urban planning models?

This debate has been organised on the occasion of the visit to Barcelona of the Medellín delegation under the auspices of the Urban Planning programme of the Medellín-Barcelona Chair which is sponsored by the Kreanta Foundation.

Presentation: Roser Bertran, vice-president of the Kreanta Foundation; Beth Galí, representative of the Governing Board of the Medellín-Barcelona Chair; Judit Carrera, head of the Centre for Documentation and Debate at the CCCB; and Manel Vila, Commissioner of Cooperation, Solidarity and Peace for the Barcelona City Council.

With the participation of:

Alejandro Echeverri, architect and director of Urbam (Centre of Urban and Environmental Studies at the EAFIT (School of Management and Finance and Institute of Technology) University of Medellín; Jorge Melguizo, director of the Medellín-Barcelona Chair in Medellín; Jordi Borja, geographer and urban planner, co-director of the post-graduate course “City Management” at the Open University of Catalonia; and Josep Parcerisa, Professor of Urban Planning at the School of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
