House of Leaves / La casa de hojas

A conversation with Javier Calvo, Robert Juan-Cantavella and Ana S. Pareja about the making of the editorial process and the most interesting aspects of adaptation into Spanish of the work House of Leaves, by Mark Z. Danielewski, a cult novel that exploits the textual and narrative possibilities developed via the Internet.

House of Leaves (2000), the first novel by Mark Z. Danielewski, is a fascinating literary artefact and one that defies any easy description. In fact, it is one of the few books which can truly be described by the term “artefact”. A work that is deconstructed into several narrative and interpretational levels that interfere with each other. Formally it is also a total challenge: it exploits the textual possibilities developed via the Internet, with the paradox that it only functions on paper.

This autumn will see the release of La casa de hojas , the translation into Spanish of House of Leaves, a publishing feat for which we must thank Alpha Decay and Pálido Fuego. First, however, we have asked some of the people responsible for this adventure to explain to us the challenges, the difficulties and the satisfactions of the process.

This session inaugurates a series of Kosmopolis activities that will run until the next physical festival event which is to be held in spring 2015.
