Kafka Inaka Isha (Franz Kafka’s A Country Doctor)

Koji Yamamura, Japan, 2007, 21’, OVCS.

Koji Yamamura, anime icon and undisputed point of reference for the independent Japanese animated film industry, challenges himself with Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor. Kafka began to write this compilation of 14 fantastic stories in 1910. Yamamura, author of the Oscar nominee and multi-award-winner for Atama Yama (Mt. Head), which was shown in the previous edition of Kosmopolis, puts Kafka in his surreal world to create a hybrid. The awards received corroborate the viewer's surprise before a piece of art such as this.
