New Sounds Festival 2005

Contemporary musics

The contemporary musics that constitute the new sounds of the moment do not emerge out of thin air. They dialogue with the past and at the same time create the future by means of a visionary, imaginative dynamic. The present-day music scene is defined by a constantly-moving magma of styles, genres, trends and practices in a state of continual definition and assessment.

New Sounds'05 is a showcase for composers who relive the musical spirit of the past, like the Estonian Arvo Pärt; a creator of the most energetic contemporary music, like Carles Santos; a classic in the music that is rooted in new languages, like Magnus Lindberg; a vocal music formation specialising in old music, like the Hilliard Ensemble, or a clarinettist of boundless imagination, like Louis Sclavis.
