Data Journalism. Work session (VI)

Observing the data of my municipality

What do you know about municipal budgets? Do you know how your town’s or city’s resources are managed? Have you ever consulted your local council’s income and expenditure forecasts? This session is devoted to exploring the different Municipal Citizens’ Observatories created to date, understanding their objectives and awakening the public’s awareness to get people to start to take an interest in information that may help them understand what is done with public money. In the second part, the workshop will introduce us to visualisations based on the data from municipalities.

5.00 p.m. // ‘The Citizens’ Municipal Observatory: How citizens can work with data’, with Enric Pons.

The Citizens’ Municipal Observatories (OCMs) are formed by groups of people from different municipalities committed to encouraging transparency and citizen participation on a municipal level. From the Citizens’ Debt-Auditing Platform they promote municipal audits in order to strengthen the control by citizens of municipal budgets and public debts.

6.00-8.00 // Workshop “Visualize Data Easily with Tableau", with Eduard Martín-Borregón
