Cosmic Ray. Music, documentary and avant-garde

According to Jonas Mekas’s idea that “cinema is cinema is cinema...”, cinema should not be compartmentalized into genres or categories of different levels to marginalize the forms that are considered “lesser”. Accordingly, the clip or the musical piece, far from a footnote in the history of the cinema, forms part of the history of the documentary and the avant-garde. This session presents some such meetings and crossovers: cinema and music synchronised to record the changes and the forms of different ages and in the media themselves, to document or explore the support. Rhythms and gesture, sound and vision, energetic and lyrical, from jazz to rock, from iconic portraits of musicians to found footage; Ray Charles, Nico, the Stones and Jimi Hendrix interpreted by Peter Whitehead, Kenneth Anger or Bruce Conner.
