Cities and Travel, sources of Europe

Lecture by Gonçalo M. Tavares

Literature can reproduce travel and cities, putting into words the sensations and experiences that urban life produces in and for us, but it can also invent metropolises, create imaginary neighbourhoods and fabricate urban characters and spaces. Gonçalo M. Tavares, one of new Portuguese literature’s most translated authors, will explain to us what “ideas of Europe” we can extract from his city, Lisbon, and from his travels.

Gonçalo M. Tavares, novelist, playwright and poet. His latest book translated into Catalan is Un viatge a l’Índia (Periscopi, 2013; in Spanish, Seix Barral, 2014).

Host: Gabi Martínez, journalist and writer. His latest book is Voy (Alfaguara, 2014).
