1st International Congress on Contemporary European Film

In recent years the possible identity of European film has turned into a political debate for such high-profile, divergent issues as market shares and cultural identities, film art versus industry, and author versus production company. This complex situation seems to call for reflection on national film production in the age of globalisation. The congress sets out to reconcile screening for certain works that are often left out of the circuit with an analysis of the various discourses present in European film-making, creating a framework for an interesting dialogue that touches on the complexity of analysing European film.

With the participation of the film-makers: Alexander Sokurov, Olivier Assayas, Bela Tarr, Pascal Bonitzer and Yervant Gianikian, and the essayists Alain Bergala, Francesco Cassetti, Gian Piero Brunetta and Jean-Michel Frodon.
