Henry Markram

Henry Markram is the founding Director of the Blue Brain Project at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), a pioneering centre engaged in the project of creating a synthetic brain by means of a supercomputer.

Specialising in micro-systems of neuronal circuits, he has developed ground-breaking research techniques and has made a number of major scientific discoveries in his field. He has recently been working on the theory of “liquid computing”, a new technique whereby neuronal activity can be registered in real-time computing. He is also notable for his work on autism and is co-author of the study The Intense World Theory for Autism, which has revolutionised thinking about this disorder.

He is presently working on the design of the Human Brain Project, the future successor to the Blue Brain Project.
