Lara Baladi

Lara Baladi was born in Beirut in 1969 and was brought up in Lebanon, Cairo and Paris; she studied at the University of Richmond, London. Larabesque offers an intimate look at female cycles, a self-representation of the artist addressing the interior and the intangible. Aroussa Baladi (literally, 'doll-bride of my country' and/or 'doll-people's bride'), the result of the artist's work in Egypt and Gaza, pinpoints details of the female body in order to explore tactics of self-representation and the ornamental elements used to define, highlight, conceal or seduce.
