Jordi Isern

Doctor in Physics from the Universitat de Barcelona (1978). He is currently Professor of Research of the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC) and director of the Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya

PhD in Physics from the Universitat de Barcelona (1978), he is currently a Research Professor at CSIC and the Director of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia.

He has worked on the origin of the light elements, the mechanisms by which neutron stars collapse, supernovae, the crystallisation of white dwarf stars and the chemical evolution of the Galaxy. Prior to that, he worked on detecting gamma rays with the INTEGRAL satellite.

He is a member of the Catalan Physical Society and of the Spanish and European Astronomical Societies. He is also a member of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Catalonia.

He served as co-editor for the magazine Europhysics Letters from 1992 to 1997 and is President of International Space University's Association of Affiliated Campuses, as well as a member of this organisation's Board of Directors.
