Chus Martínez

Born in1972 in Ponteceso (A Coruña), Chus Martíinez studied Philosophy and Art History.  She is currently director of the Institute of Artat the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel (Switzerland). Previously she was chief curator at El Museo del Barrio in New York, department head and member of the Core Agent Group at dOCUMENTA (13), chief curator at the MACBA in Barcelona (2008-11), director of the Frankfurter Kunstverein (2005-08) and artistic director of the Sala Rekalde in Bilbao (2002-05).

She participated in the Venice Biennale 2005 and was curatorial advisor for Carnegie International and the 29th São Paulo Biennial. She also curated numerous exhibitions while at the Frankfurter Kunstverein and the MACBA, and in other institutions, such as the Museo de Art Reina Sofia in Madrid.

Chus Martínez gives lectures, writes critical essays for catalogues and is a regular contributor to Artforum, among other international art magazines.
