Exhibition SOUVENIR. Martin Parr. Photography and Collecting

«To collect photography is to collect the world». Susan Sontag

Martin Parr, prestigious international photographer and member of the Magnum photography agency, illustrates in this exhibition a reality that Susan Sontag ventured to capture back in the 70s, that photographic creation shares a certain logical connection with collecting.

His work explores a social reality neglected to date: the middle classes, to which the artist himself feels he belongs. It is through tourism that the values characterising the new global middle class are expressed openly and uninhibitedly. Like any other souvenir, a photograph in the context of tourism acquires a sense of being collectable.

Since the gestation of the project, we were very aware that beyond the artistic interest of the exhibition it had to be manageable, at a physical level to adapt to other spaces, and especially financially limited, to be able to involve other institutions that keep points of connection with CCCB in their programming.
