Motors of creation

Conference of the Association of Dance Professionals of Catalonia (APdC)

Courses and workshops

Second edition of a one-day conference for reflection and practice of creation in dance. The programme presents four very different artistes on the contemporary moving arts scene: Pere Faura, Janet Novás, Salva Sanchís and Amaranta Velarde.

The conference is aimed at dance and performing arts professionals and anyone who is interested in dance and creation. Practical laboratories, talks and guided tours of the installations that the four invited artistes have prepared for the occasion will be held throughout the day.

Conference devised by Jordi Cardoner and Mireia de Querol.

Throughout the day, four installations developed by Faura, Novás, Sanchís and Velarde will be available.  By means of documents, visual examples or references, they will offer an insight into their creative processes.

Morning. Practical laboratories

10:30 - 13:00 | Pere Faura: What's gained and lost and in translation

How do you dance a text? How do you sing a dance? How do you speak choreographically? We practise and ponder possible and impossible tools that can be used to translate different stage materials into other supports or disciplines.

Who it’s aimed at: Laboratory open to professionals and non-professionals. Bring comfortable footwear; we won’t be dancing barefoot.

11:00 - 13:00 | Salva Sanchís: Perfect Movement

The workshop is structured directly or indirectly according to Salva Sanchís’s pedagogical proposal. It is a highly structured, improvised movement protocol that is used as a platform to analyse the relationship between intention and movement, demonstrating the operation of a procedural learning process.

Who it’s aimed at: No previous knowledge is necessary.

13:30 - 15:00 | Janet Novás: Making and Moving

In this workshop, Janet Novás shares some of the creation tools she uses in her creative processes. The body is proposed as the main means to explore all its potentials, from physicality to voice, running through and deploying different imaginaries.

Who it’s aimed at: People interested in creation and the moving arts.

13:30 - 15:00 | Amaranta Velarde: Sound Situations (sketches involving body, sound and sound source)

This workshop is based on research during the project Sound Apparitions, working with the relation of different sources of sound, objects, materials and body, moving and mixing choreographic, plastic and sound strategies and concepts from one material to another. Participants (professionals or not) are invited to come along with an audio track, objects that generate sound (avoiding musical instruments), Bluetooth speakers, head phones, their voice...

Who it’s aimed at: People interested in sound art and the performing arts (professionals and non-professionals).

Note: The laboratories are open to participants and listeners; please fill in the registration form in either case.

Afternoon/Evening. Guided visits to the installations and Round Table

17:00 and 18:00 | Creation documentation installations, with guided visits conducted by the artistes. Two guided visits of the installations of Faura, Novás, Sanchís and Velarde will be conducted by the artistes at 17:00 and 18:00, during which they will explain the materials displayed. Those wishing to join the visits must fill in the registration form.

19:00 - 20:30 | Round table: Different approaches to creation. Talk with the participating artistes and Faura, Novás, Sanchís and Velarde about how they address the different aspects of the creative process.

20:30 - 21:30 | Closing aperitif
