In this lecture, the philosopher Víctor Gómez Pin will discuss the relationship between physics and philosophy throughout western history and will describe the links between classical thinkers and present-day physics.
According to Víctor Gómez Pin, scientists have always turned to philosophy when their discoveries have led them to question the principles of reality that were previously taken for granted. If, in the cradle of western culture, there were philosophers who went from observing nature (physis) to pondering the very condition of existence (meta-physis), the discovery of quantum physics today has led science to return to the ancient philosophical questions about the principles of reality. Is philosophy, therefore, the destiny of physics?
