El auge del humano

The CCCB's cinema

Audiovisuals

In collaboration with the D'A Film Festival, Xcèntric presents the Barcelona premiere of the latest feature by Argentine director Eduardo Williams. Documentary and fiction combine in this portrait of groups of young people in different places around the world.

The dissatisfied lives of young people in Argentina, Mozambique and Filipinas are joined by the internet in this singular film, a winner at last year’s Locarno festival. Williams explores the private lives of its characters and leaps back and forth across the ocean, using amateur filmmaking resources that help to show the thin line between fiction and documentary. The urban landscapes underline the idea of loss of identity of these young people, a generation living under the omnipresent net. This young Argentine filmmaker shows us the impact of a new way of seeing the world, that of digital natives, showing not the technology but the impact on their human condition. As in his earlier shorts, Williams invites us to rethink ways of filming, which he approaches like a somersault over the abyss.
